What We Do

The Center for Educational Outreach (CEO) advances the University of Michigan’s commitment to academic excellence and statewide impact by expanding access to opportunity. CEO collaborates with faculty, staff, and students to deliver high-impact programs that inform, engage, and inspire Michigan’s future leaders. By coordinating outreach across the university, CEO strengthens the state’s talent pipeline, supports upward mobility, and helps ensure Michigan remains competitive in a rapidly evolving economy.

Key Focus Area

Delivering Direct Service

CEO strategically meets the needs and challenges of the K-12 community by providing timely resources and capacity to its school partners. Initiatives like MCAC, GEAR UP, and Raise Scholars drive post-secondary success through advising, cultural enrichment trips, and scholarship support. Annually, the Wolverine Express reaches over 600 students, and the Campus Visits Team conducts 60+ visits, engaging 1,800+ students across Michigan.

Fostering Communities of Practice

CEO strengthens educational communities by hosting transformative events and summits, like the Faculty Forum on Outreach & Engagement and the annual Pre-College Conference. These gatherings inspire collaboration and equip participants with tools for addressing outreach challenges. Summer Pre-College Programming staff connect twice a year through the Summer Programs Series, and professionals committed to educational outreach connect with the University Outreach Council's monthly meetings. CEO hosts an average of 13 events annually, impacting over 600 outreach professionals.

Building Capacity

Through consulting and collaborative strategies, CEO empowers faculty, staff, and students to develop innovative outreach solutions. This includes dialogues with statewide universities for sustainable campus visit funding and expanding public health equity initiatives in high schools. CEO hosts an average of 80 free consultations per year for university faculty and staff, as well as community-based organizations and student organizations.
