On March 21st, the Wolverine Express visited Detroit Edison Public School Academy (DEPSA) Early College of Excellence, marking the program’s sixth school this academic year.
On March 15th, CEO held its fourth Faculty Forum for the academic year; the community gathered for a discussion about National Science Foundation (NSF) grants. This conversation was led by Dr. Suzanne Iacono, PhD, Head of the Office of Integrative Activities (OIA) at the NSF and was co-sponsored by the U-M Office of Research.
Dr. Suzi Iacono currently leads the Office of Integrative Activities at the National Science Foundation. She received her PhD from the University of Arizona in information systems and MA and BA from the University of California, Irvine, in social ecology.
The shortage of high school counselors is among the pressing issues facing the education system today. In Michigan, there are currently 729 students to every counselor, straining students’ access to guidance and resources.
On March 7, the University Outreach Council convened for a discussion on K-12 educational outreach being conducted by U-M student organizations. Representatives from MUSIC Matters and the American Chemical Society (ACS) POLY/PMSE student chapter shared their experiences about connecting with youth through various outreach programs.
