Michigan Pre-College and Youth Outreach Conference

Postsecondary institutions play a valuable role in communities by educating students, but they also serve communities by offering programs to inform, engage, and inspire youth to pursue postsecondary education. Bringing together leaders in education, workforce development, and government across the state, the annual Michigan Pre-College and Youth Outreach Conference celebrates and casts a spotlight on this important function within Michigan’s postsecondary institutions.

The 2018 conference will be held at Saginaw Valley State University on November 15-16, 2018.

This conference rotates among colleges and universities across the state. Representatives from many colleges and universities, as well as other partners, contribute to its planning. The 11th annual conference, Top 10 in 10: Strategic Partnerships for Student Success, will be hosted on the campus of the Saginaw Valley State University November 15 and 16, 2018. We will use the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) strategic plan as a backdrop, focusing heavily on Strategic Goals 1, 4, 5 and 6.

This year in addition to our one-day conference on November 16, we are planning a pre-conference workshop to be held on November 15. We have invited Dr. Rebecca Dedmond, Professor of School Counseling at George Washington University. Please see her bio for a complete view of her accomplishments and experience. We have applied for Continuing Educational Units to be offered upon completion of the pre-conference workshop.

Dr. Christopher B Howard, a First-Generation student who now serves as the eighth president of Robert Morris University, will be the conference keynote speaker.  Dr. Howard aims to make RMU the preferred strategic partner for corporations, organizations, and professionals in the Pittsburgh region and beyond. Under the university’s latest strategic plan, RMU 100, the university will use Gallup research and powerful new technologies to boost retention and graduations rates and launch students into great careers.
