University Outreach Council

Established in 2008 by CEO, the University Outreach Council (UOC) consists of U-M faculty and staff representing schools, colleges and units involved in educational outreach and engagement initiatives. Through once-monthly meetings, annual programs and events, and ongoing networking, this community at U-M shares best practices about educational outreach and engagement, offers expertise and guidance to promote educational outreach and engagement, and enhances collaboration and coordination of educational outreach across campus.


Membership is open to all faculty and staff with interest in enhancing educational outreach and engagement at U-M. To join or to stay informed about UOC meetings and activities, e-mail


UOC meets once-monthly October through April. Meetings are typically the first Wednesday of each month from 12:00-1:30pm at CEO. CEO maintains a Google site that includes presentations from past meetings and other resources for K-12 outreach and engagement at U-M.

Committees and Working Groups

Several committees and working groups are organized around UOC priorities. These include:

  • U-M K-12 Outreach and Engagement Strategy Working Group
    This group is taking a deep look at K-12 outreach at the university and best practices (internal and external) to develop a comprehensive strategy for K-12 outreach at Michigan.
  • UOC Advisory Group
    The UOC Advisory Group helps develop the annual agenda for UOC meetings and explore adding additional professional development opportunities throughout the year.
  • Faculty Engagement Working Group
    This group focuses on strategies to engage more U-M faculty in K-12 outreach.
  • Michigan Pre-College and Youth Outreach Conference Committee
    The University of Michigan will host the 10th annual Michigan Pre-College and Youth Outreach Conference Nov. 6, 2017. This committee, together with colleagues from other institutions, is involved in planning and coordinating all aspects of the conference.
  • Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) Working Group
    This group is assessing the needs of and developing an infrastructure and tools to support K-12 outreach and engagement at Michigan.
