Excerpt: In a report from the Equality of Opportunity project earlier this year, the University of Michigan ranked last in socioeconomic diversity out of 27 “highly selective” universities in the United States. To improve outreach in low-income neighborhoods through the utilization of digital programs, the Digital Tools and Youth Outreach Community held its first meeting Thursday morning in the Hatcher Graduate Library.

University office staff members and directors from the Office of Academic Innovation and the Center for Educational Outreach, who co-sponsor the community, and many more academic programs participated in the kickoff event.
